Suspected Kuki militants continue to attack Meitei village; one died, two injured

Villagers in the periphery between Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts continue to remain in horror as armed Kuki militants continue to attack the Meitei villages unabatedly. Yesterday a 20-year-old youth died in a bomb attack by armed Kuki militants at Phougatchao Ikhai, today two persons sustained bullet injury. On sustained at his hand after being hit by a bullet probably fired by a sniper.
Report reaching here said that armed Kuki militants started attacking villages at Phaogakchao Ikhai and the Terakhong areas in Bishnupur district at around 5 am today. Following the attack, security forces deployed there retaliated and gunfight occurred till late afternoon today. Former general secretary of Manipur Peoples Party, H. Geetagen, who went to his friend’s house at Phougakchao Ikhai sustained bullet injury at his hand today morning. Another youth was also reported injured, but the identity of the person is yet to be established.
Earlier, yesterday, a person identified as Noacha Longjam (20 years) from Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai sustained serious injury after being hit by the splinters of a bomb fired by Kuki militants. The person succumbed to injury late yesterday evening.
In another incident, a village volunteer sustains injuries in an attack by suspected Kuki Militants at Kangvai Maning Heikol, located in the adjoining area of Bishnupur and Churachandpur district.
The suspected Kuki militants started attacking the villages located at the periphery between Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts in early hours today.
A gunbattle broke out in the wee hours of Thursday morning at Phougakchao Ikhai and Terakhong in Bishnupur district, with firing still underway. Two village defence volunteers have been reportedly received bullet injuries in the exchange of fire. A cowshed was burnt after a bomb fired by Kuki militants landed and blasted.
