State observes Patriots’ Day: Fitting tributes paid to war heroes of 1891; state inaugurates memorial complex of exile martyrs

Manipur today observed Patriots’ Day in memory of those heroes who sacrificed their lives in the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891. Governor of Manipur Shri Ganga Prasad Chaurasia and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh led others in paying floral tributes at Kangla Utra and Shaheed Minar, Bir Tikendrajit Park. A contingent of Manipur Rifles sounded the last post and offered gun salutes to the martyrs. The Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs and others also paid their floral tributes at Hicham Yaichampat, Moirangkhom, where Bir Tikendrajit was cremated and at Thangal General Temple Complex, Palace Compound.
On the occasion, Governor Ganga Prasad Chaurasia inaugurated the Memorial Complex dedicated to the exiled martyrs of the Anglo-Manipur War 1891 at Bir Tikendrajit Park. The names of those unsung heroes who fought valiantly against the mighty British forces and later exiled to Andaman and Nicobar Islands are engraved on the Memorial Stone unveiled today. Later, the artistes of Roop Raag performed the first rendition of the State Song of Manipur “Sana Leibak Manipur” written by renowned lyricist late B. Jayantakumar Sharma and composed by Aribam Syam Sharma. It may be mentioned that the State Cabinet has decided to adopt “Sana Leibak Manipur” by Roop Raag as the State song of Manipur recently.
While addressing the media persons, the Governor reminded the people that they should not forget the supreme sacrifices made by our heroes who fought valiantly against British colonialism. On this occasion, let us pledge to work towards inclusive development and welfare of the people, he added. He further mentioned that we all must work towards fulfilling the aspirations of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi such as Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), Make in India initiative etc.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said that the Memorial Complex inaugurated today is a tribute to all those unsung heroes who were exiled to Andaman and Nicobar islands after the Anglo-Manipur war of 1891. We must not forget those exiled martyrs who made supreme sacrifices for the sovereignty of our motherland. He recalled that this day reminded us of the courage and selfless sacrifices made by our forefathers who fought the mighty British forces despite knowing that they would be defeated.
The Chief Minister stated that even though we speak different languages and dialects and follow different religions, there is a strong sense of oneness and unity among the communities living in the State. He also maintained that there would be development only when there is peace. Let us imbibe the feeling of nationalism and patriotism to uphold unity and integrity of the Nation, he added.
It may be mentioned that the observance began with ‘Prabhat Phery’ commencing from DIPR Office, Keishampat at 4:00 am. Patriotic songs, imbibing the sense of patriotism and martyrdom, were played at various locations of Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
District Administrations of all districts of Manipur also observed Patriots’ Day at their respective District Headquarters.
At Senapati district the Patriots’ Day was observed at DRDA Conference Hall.
Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati stated that the heroic act of Bir Tikendrajit and General Thangal should not be forgotten easily. In remembering of their bravery against the colonial rule, road name and park have been set up, he added. He said that everyone must also take the pledge in life continuing the ideals and sacrifices made by their forefather.
At Chandel district , the Patriots’ Day was observed at district head quarter, DC complex today. Floral tributes were paid by the Deputy Commissioner, Chandel,
Mayanglambam Rajkumar ,Superintendent of Police, Chandel,L.Deven Singh, CO 8 MR Somendro singh and other officials of the district. Due to the ongoing pandemic the function was organised in a simple and smaller scale.
AT Thoubal district, the Patriot’s Day was observed at the Conference hall of DC Office, Thoubal. 
Deputy Commissioner of the district, Rangnamei Rang Peter and the District Level Officials paid floral tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of the motherland. 
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, (RIMS) Imphal observed Patriots’ Day today at New Examination Hall, RIMS, Imphal. The Director of RIMS, Prof. A. Santa Singh led in paying floral tributes to the heroes of Manipur who fought against the British during Anglo-Manipuri War. State song was presented by Ms. Janeshwori Devi and followed by a speech on significance and importance of observing Patriots’ Day every year by Yaikhom Biken Singh, RIMS, Imphal.
Prof. A. Santa Singh, Director of RIMS, urged the staffs and students to work sincerely and dedication for the betterment of the society. We should remember the supreme sacrifice made by the heroes of Anglo Manipur War. Prof. H. Priyoshakhi Devi, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital and Prof. Ak. Brogen Singh, Dean(Academic), RIMS, Principal of Dental college and College of Nursing, Head of Departments, faculty members from Medical, Dental and College of Nursing, Nursing Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, Nursing officials, staffs and students attended the Patriots ’ Day observation.
Rotary Club Imphal also observes the Patriots Day’. As part of the observance umbrella were distributed to the traffic police personals at various traffic points at four district head quarters namely, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts. Our traffic police personals have been doing their job in rain and in shine for the safety of our community.
The Patroits’ day was also observed ar Hojai District, Assam which is organized by Assam Pradesh Manipuri Association (APMA), Hojai a State Level Socio-Political and Socio-Cultural Development Manipuri Organization in Assam.
