Imphal, Nov 26:

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh attended the observance of Constitution Day at Durbar Hall, CM’s Secretariat, Babupara today. The observation was organised by the Law & Legislative Affairs Department, Government of Manipur.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said, mass awareness campaigns on the Indian Constitution are very crucial towards building a strong and united Nation.
The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the Department officials involved in the translation process from English to Meetei Mayek for better understanding by the present and future generations.
N. Biren Singh maintained that the values, principles, and rights enshrined in the Constitution should be inculcated by the people of the Nation. He also emphasized the need for the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary to work collectively towards bringing development in the State.
The Chief Minister also informed that the State government has taken up various initiatives like “War on Drugs” to control the drug menace and curb the illegal immigration in the State. He further stated that border fencing along the border has also been initiated.
N. Biren Singh also highlighted that the government is not against democratic forms of agitations, but committing violence during protest cannot be taken lightly especially if anti-social elements are involved in damaging public or private properties. He further expressed the need to weed out such anti-social elements from the society and to build a strong and united Manipur.
Minister for Law & Legislative Affairs, Thounaojam Basantakumar Singh stated that the Constitution is not just a legal document but a testament of collective aspirations for justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. He mentioned that it guarantees fundamental rights to all citizens including the right to equality, freedom, and protection against exploitation. It also outlines the duties of citizens to promote the spirit of patriotism and uphold the unity of India, he added.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister also released the Diglot Edition of the three new criminal major Acts in Meetei Mayek script.
The function was attended by Advocate General, Manipur Lenin Singh Hijam, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, Special Chief Secretary Shri M.H. Khan, Administrative Secretaries, and Legal fraternity among others.
