On 23rd November 2024, the Department of Social Work at Kristu Jayanti College, Bangalore, undertook a commendable initiative titled “Anbin Kaikootam” to support 50 underprivileged families from the Kalkere community, primarily engaged in rack picking. This student-driven project aimed to provide essential items and promote community welfare.
Organized by the second-year MSW students under the guidance of Dr. Jonas Richard A, Head of the Department of Social Work, the project was coordinated by five students: Sorormi Jessy, Pretusha Philip, Delna Mary Jaison, Jennie Peaceful, and Ann Maria Tereesa. Faculty members, including Dr. Winnie Joyce, played a vital role in mentoring the team.
The program began with a prayer led by Pretusha Philip, followed by a welcome address from Sorormi Jessy, who highlighted the objectives of the project. In her speech, Dr. Winnie Joyce lauded the students’ efforts and emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering empathy and practical learning.
Essential items such as rice, dal, sugar, oil, winter bed sheets, and mats were distributed to the 50 identified families during the event. The beneficiaries also received light refreshments, creating an atmosphere of warmth and connection.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ann Maria Tereesa, expressing gratitude to all involved, including the faculty, students, and community members, for their support and active participation.
The community members appreciated the thoughtful efforts of the students and faculty, extending their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jonas Richard A and Dr. Winnie Joyce for their guidance and unwavering support.
