Imphal, July 27:
Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College has clarified allegations raised by students that the college has not recruited guest lecturers despite the lack of teachers and has been taking library fees without providing library facilities. Additionally, there were claims that examination fees have been taken twice.
S. Ramkumar Singh, the Principal of Shri Shri Balmukunda Dev Music College in Palace Compound, Imphal, addressed the media today, accompanied by the teaching staff, to clarify these allegations.
Ramkumar Singh responded to claims that he was instructed by superiors to recruit teachers for vacant positions on a guest basis but failed to do so. He clarified that he had submitted numerous applications regarding this matter and that the government had issued notifications for the contractual recruitment of three teachers. “The process is ongoing,” he assured. He emphasized that he is just a principal and not the appointing authority, highlighting that he can only act upon written orders from higher authorities.
Addressing concerns about the collection of library fees despite the absence of a functional library, Singh explained, “The library fee is 250 rupees. We have books but lack staff to manage them. Previously, there were many clerks, and a storekeeper handled these tasks, but now we have only one clerk. We also do not have a librarian.” He promised to either facilitate book issuance with the help of teachers or refund the library fee if a librarian could not be appointed.
On the issue of examination fees, Principal Ramkumar Singh stated that the college charges a fee of 280 rupees, which is used to run the college. During form filling, an additional processing fee results in a total fee of 700-800 rupees. He denied accusations of charging examination fees twice, clarifying that one fee is for the examination itself, while the other is a form fill-up fee. “This is the norm,” he said, highlighted that they do not charge twice for the same exam.
