Imphal, July 27:
The President of Loyalam Apunba Nupi Lup, Khomdram Ibemhal, has stated that if the state government is not under the control of the Kuki militants, it should act accordingly. She made this appeal during a significant gathering held at the Epa Nongpok Ningthou Ema Panthoibi Haraobi Sanglen in Khumbong Bazar.
Addressing the gathering, Khomdram Ibemhal highlighted the severe impact of the ongoing conflict on the people of Manipur, particularly stressing the heightened tension and insecurity faced by residents in Imphal and the surrounding areas. “The conflict has brought immense hardship to the people, and it is crucial that we stand together to support each other during these challenging times,” she emphasized.
The meeting saw participation from numerous meira paibis (women torchbearers), who have been at the forefront of the movement to restore peace and normalcy in the region. Ibemhal pointed out that while urban areas like Imphal are heavily affected, the situation is equally dire in rural and hill regions, where people live in constant fear and uncertainty due to the ongoing violence.
Recent reports indicate that Kuki militants have been encroaching on Meitei lands, leading to violent clashes. In response, Assam Rifles have been deployed to maintain order. However, sporadic gunfights have still occurred, leading to criticisms that Assam Rifles is helping the Kuki militants.
Loyalam Apunba Nupi Lup, along with Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi, has vowed to continue their efforts to mediate peace and support those affected by the conflict.
