Shiva Sena slams Centre for extending SoO

M. Tombi, President of the Shiv Sena Manipur Pradesh, has strongly criticized the central government for extending the Suspension of Operations (SoO) with Kuki militants, saying the move reflects a disregard for the government and legislative assembly of Manipur.
Speaking to reporters during a felicitation function for newly enrolled Karyakartas at the party office in Babupara, Tombi stated that resolutions passed by the state assembly are final in a democratic system. He pointed out that the state assembly had passed a resolution seeking the abrogation of the SoO, but the Centre’s decision to extend it, along with the imposition of President’s Rule, runs contrary to the will of the people.
“This is not only a humiliation of the elected representatives but also of the people of the state,” he said.
Tombi further criticized the elected representatives of Manipur, suggesting that the Centre’s approach is influenced by their perceived reluctance or cowardice to stand up for the state’s interests. He alleged that extending the SoO against the resolutions of the state assembly prioritizes the central government’s political strategies over the welfare and rights of the people of Manipur.
According to Tombi, the extension of the SoO undermines the authority of the state and sets a concerning precedent where state resolutions are disregarded, raising questions about federal governance and respect for local democratic processes.
