In response to the growing issue of extortion amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur, teachers and students have initiated a three-day sit-in campaign at various educational institutions. The campaign, which began on July 25, is being organized by the Co-ordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand. The protest aims to address the “unbearable” monetary demands imposed by various organizations on educational institutions and to advocate for schools and colleges to be declared disturbance-free zones.
On its second day, the sit-in saw significant participation from educational institutions across different lines with students of Maria Montessori School, Little Flower School, GP Women College and other schools staging protest in front of their schools and colleges. In the Lamlong Pangei Line, protests took place at Naorem Birahari College, Cosmopolitan High School, Bright Career Academy, Tampha Quality School, KC High School, Ram School, Pari Imom Khwai Sindam Shang, Kanan Devi Memorial School, Getwell School, Hundred Flower Higher Secondary School, Paramount School, Success School, Khurai, and Lamlong Higher Secondary School.
In the Top Line area, the sit-in included North Eastern English School, Shishu Nista School, Mega Manipur School, and Fresel Academy.
Along the Koirangei Line, Maria Montessori School, Kings School, Reliance Academy, Sarivan Higher Secondary School, Liberal College, Camps English School, Christ Jyoti, Tiny Tots Unique School, St. Thomas High School, St. Anthony School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Imphal Valley Academy, Sangai Higher Secondary School, Central Academy, E.K. Higher Secondary School, Manipur Public School, Heingang Higher Secondary School, and DAV Public School participated in the protest.
In the Yairipok Line, Sacred Heart School, Thambalnu High School, and Antratica English School joined the campaign.
