Imphal, July 26:
In a continued effort to popularize Meetei Mayek, the Meetei Erol Eyek Loina Sillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) convened a meeting with the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and the Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) at the Manipur Press Club on Thursday afternoon. The meeting aimed to strengthen the collaboration between these organizations in promoting the traditional script.
After thorough deliberations, MEELAL expressed its gratitude to the editors of daily newspapers for their ongoing support in the campaign to popularize Meetei Mayek. Despite their best efforts, newspapers face significant challenges in expanding the use of Meetei Mayek due to the ongoing crisis following attacks on the Meetei community by armed Kuki narco-terrorists.
During the meeting, it was resolved to maintain the status quo agreed upon in previous meetings. Additionally, a new committee will be formed to monitor the inclusion of Meetei Mayek content in newspapers. This committee will oversee and ensure the consistent presence of the script in each publication.
Furthermore, the meeting agreed that Meetei Mayek should be included in all advertisements, with the exception of those originating from outside the state. This decision aims to promote the script further while accommodating practical limitations faced by the local newspapers.
The collaboration between MEELAL, AMWJU, and EGM highlights a united effort to preserve and promote Meetei Mayek, despite the challenges posed by the current socio-political climate. By working together, these organizations hope to sustain the cultural heritage and linguistic identity of the Meetei community.
