Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated across Manipur

The 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with reverence and patriotism across Manipur today, commemorating India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. The central celebration took place at the 1st Manipur Rifles Battalion Banquet Hall in Imphal, graced by Minister Th. Biswajit Singh, who emphasized the importance of honoring the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Minister Biswajit, who oversees Power, Forest, Environment and Climate Change, Agriculture, and Science & Technology, highlighted the annual observance of Kargil Vijay Diwas on July 26. He spoke about the significance of remembering the essence of patriotism and the need for everyone to contribute to national security. He also mentioned the Indian Air Force’s celebration of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas – Rajat Jayanti’ at Air Force Station Sarsawa from July 12 to 26, 2024, to honor the brave soldiers involved in Operation Safed Sagar.
Minister Biswajit also reflected on the efforts of uniformed personnel during times of crisis, expressing gratitude for their role in evacuating 60,000 displaced people. He urged citizens to safeguard the land for future generations and to cooperate in restoring peace.
In his address as President of the function, Minister Awangbow Newmai, who heads Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management, praised the valor and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers in the Kargil War. He stressed the importance of observing Kargil Vijay Diwas to honor the bravery of the soldiers from the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
Artists from Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal, performed a patriotic song, adding to the solemnity of the event. The observation saw participation from Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, Security Advisor to the Manipur Government, the Director General of Police, and other high-ranking officials.
In Tamenglong district, Assam Rifles commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas at Apollo Ground, featuring an exhibition and documentary screening that recounted significant events of the Kargil War. Over 500 students from seven schools attended, instilling a sense of pride in the sacrifices of the soldiers.
At Senapati, the District Administration joined the nationwide celebration at the DC Conference Hall. Project Director P.P. Ronald spoke about the war’s causes and mentioned the five martyrs from Manipur. Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley administered the Kargil Vijay Diwas pledge and presented a memento to the family of Sepoy K. Ashuli, a Vir Chakra awardee from Senapati District.
Kargil Vijay Diwas was also celebrated in various offices and sub-divisional blocks across the district, with notable attendees including ADM Nimmi Azingwungshi Khamrang and SDC Pf. Lophro.
