Naga body demands for transparency in recruitment processes

IT News
Imphal, Dec 13:
The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation (MNYO) has issued an appeal to state and central authorities, urging them to ensure transparency and fairness in ongoing recruitment drives and promotional processes across various departments. Highlighting discrepancies in the recruitment process, the MNYO has called for strict adherence to the 100-point roster system, which mandates reservation quotas, including the 33% allocation for tribal communities.
The organisation acknowledged the government’s sustained efforts to address unemployment among educated youths in Manipur through continuous recruitment drives, even during challenging periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2022) and the ongoing ethnic conflict that began on May 3, 2023, between the Meitei/Meetei and Chin-Kuki-Zo communities. However, the MNYO expressed concerns over recruitment practices that allegedly bypass established guidelines and favor contractual, casual, or outsourced appointments over regular recruitment processes.
The MNYO criticized what it termed as “proxy recruitment,” alleging that vacancies in state and central departments, including educational institutions like Manipur University, National Institute of Technology, and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, are being filled through unofficial channels without due advertisement or adherence to employment exchange norms. The organisation warned that these practices undermine justice and risk exacerbating unrest among tribal communities.
The statement also emphasized the need to respect the increasing tribal population in the state, which now constitutes over 40% of Manipur’s demographic. The organisation accused authorities of intentionally delaying the declaration of vacant posts to manipulate recruitment outcomes, leaving tribal and backward-class candidates at a disadvantage.
The MNYO urged the state and central governments to halt ongoing recruitment processes that do not comply with established norms and demanded a thorough review of discrepancies. They stressed the importance of implementing the 100-point roster system in all recruitment drives, admissions, and promotions across state and central departments, including universities and specialized institutions.
Failure to address these concerns, the MNYO warned, could lead to intensified democratic agitations aimed at restoring fairness and transparency in recruitment practices. The organisation reiterated its commitment to advocating for the rights of tribal communities and ensuring equitable opportunities for all.
