MReF accuses KIM of spreading misinformation

IT News
Imphal, Mar 11:

The Meitei Resurgence Forum (MReF) Manipur has accused the Kuki Inpi Manipur of sparking controversy by disseminating misinformation regarding the recent violence in Manipur. In a statement, the MReF highlighted that the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) is spreading falsehoods about the origins of the violence.
The MReF pointed out that in a declaration released on March 10 following their 30th Assembly in Geljang, Churachandpur (March 6th-9th), KIM falsely asserts that “Meiteis started the war” on Kukis. However, evidence contradicts this claim, indicating that Kuki aggression was the catalyst for violence against the Meitei community.
According to the MReF, the violent unrest in Manipur began with brazen attacks by members of the Kuki community, who targeted homes belonging to Meiteis in Kuki-dominated districts and surrounding areas of the Imphal Valley region. This aggression, fueled by armed militant groups, was initiated by the minority Kukis, not the majority Meiteis.
Furthermore, the MReF highlighted that militant groups affiliated with the Kuki-Zomi factions have operated under a de facto ceasefire agreement with the Indian government since 2005, formalized in 2008. Despite this agreement, Kuki organizations have disregarded the sentiments of the Meiteis and other communities, asserting false ancestral ties to sacred sites revered by the Meiteis.
In light of these revelations, the MReF urged the Kuki Inpi Manipur to cease spreading misinformation and to acknowledge the true origins of the violence. Addressing the reality of the situation is essential for fostering genuine dialogue and reconciliation amidst the ongoing tensions in Manipur.
