MP Sanajaoba raises demand for full implementation of Manipur Merger Agreement in Parliament

IT News
New Delhi, Feb 11:

Rajya Sabha MP and titular king, Leisemba Sanajaoba, has urged the Union Government to fully implement the Manipur Merger Agreement in Parliament. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour session, MP Sanajaoba emphasized that despite Manipur’s merger with India in 1949, the promises made under the agreement have not been fulfilled.
Speaking in Parliament, he highlighted that Manipur, despite being an ancient kingdom with a recorded history of over 5,000 years and a well-established civilization, was merged with India through “The Manipur Merger Agreement 1949.” However, even after all these years, the commitments made under the agreement remain unaddressed, leaving the people of Manipur feeling neglected and betrayed.
MP Sanajaoba further pointed out that Article 8 of the Manipur Merger Agreement contained key provisions to safeguard the socio-economic, cultural, and political status of the people of Manipur. He stressed that these safeguards were meant to ensure that the unique identity, traditions, and rights of the people were protected, along with guarantees for public service employment, legal safeguards, and religious freedoms.
However, he lamented that the necessary safeguards and commitments under the agreement have not been fully implemented, leading to the continued marginalization of the state. He asserted that the socio-economic, cultural, and political status of Manipur must be strengthened through proper execution of the agreement.
Urging the Union Government to take necessary actions, MP Sanajaoba called for the immediate implementation of the Manipur Merger Agreement in its entirety to protect the interests of the state and its people.
