Congress leader Jairam Ramesh questions Manipur Governor over Assembly Session delay

IT News
Imphal, Feb 11:

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has questioned the Manipur Governor’s decision not to summon a constitutionally mandated session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly, alleging a violation of Article 174(1) of the Constitution.
Taking to the social media platform X, Ramesh pointed out that Article 174(1) mandates that the gap between two assembly sessions cannot exceed six months. He accused the Governor of failing to uphold constitutional provisions by not convening the assembly session within the stipulated time frame.
“The session was declared null and void because the BJP could not appoint a successor to the Chief Minister, against whom the Congress was set to move a no-confidence motion,” Ramesh wrote. He further alleged that the outgoing Chief Minister was forced to resign on Sunday night, complicating the political crisis in the state.
The Congress leader’s remarks come amid growing uncertainty over Manipur’s political future, with the opposition raising concerns over governance and constitutional propriety in the state.
