Mera Chaorel Houba celebrated with grandeur and communal spirit

The vibrant annual festival Mera Chaorel Houba, a celebration of unity and cultural harmony among indigenous communities, was observed today with fervor and devotion at Haying Khongbal Uphong Yumpham. The event was organized under the stewardship of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board.
The festival drew participation from diverse ethnic groups including Meitei, Kabui, Maring, and Chothe, who came together to honor their shared heritage and ancestral ties. Elders, priests, and leaders from various traditional councils jointly conducted sacred rituals, reinforcing the spirit of togetherness.
The day began with ceremonial offerings to deities Atingkok Maru Sidaba and Yaibirel Sanamahi, followed by collective prayers for peace, prosperity, and communal harmony. The celebration featured traditional dances, symbolic gift exchanges, and communal feasting, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the region.
A highlight of the day was the early morning procession, where devotees carried sacred items from Haying Khongbal Uphong Yumpham to Lainingthou Sanamahi Kokthol, passing through key city landmarks including Keishampat, Wahengbam Leikai, Uripok, and Khwairamband Keithel.
Cultural performances continued at various Umang Lai shrines, with a special showcase at Kangla Uttra featuring devotional music, dance, and martial arts, captivating attendees and reaffirming the festival’s enduring significance.
