Imphal, Nov 25:
A 56-year-old Meitei man, Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, has been reported missing since the morning of November 25. Singh, a resident of Loitang Khunou in Manipur, was last seen heading towards the Army colony in Leimakhong for work. His sudden disappearance has raised alarm in the Sekmai constituency, where locals have expressed deep concern and called for immediate action to secure his safe return.
Sources report that a joint search operation involving both the State Police and Central Forces is currently underway to locate Singh. Authorities have intensified efforts, but his whereabouts remain unknown, fueling fears among the local community.
Leimakhong, located around 16-17 km from Imphal city, has long been considered a sensitive area due to previous incidents where civilians have disappeared under similar circumstances. This has led to growing suspicions of abduction and forced disappearances in the region.
In a related development, women from Kanto Village have staged a protest demanding Singh’s safe release. Disturbing video footage circulating online shows unarmed women facing possible retaliation from the Army, heightening tensions in the area.
Community leaders, human rights organizations, and local activists have called for an immediate investigation into Singh’s abduction. The Democratic Media Coordination Committee (DMCC) and other media outlets in Manipur are urged to investigate further and bring attention to this worrying trend of abductions in the region.
