Meira Paibis along with local youths staged a sit-in protest at the Community Hall of Social Workers Congress, Khongman, condemning the alleged bomb attack at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in the early hours of April 7 that claimed the lives of two children and left their mother seriously injured. The protest was earlier announced by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI).
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Santa Nahakpam criticised the government for what he described as a lack of clarity and transparency regarding the April 7 incident. He stated that the people of Manipur are emotionally distressed and questioned why key details have not been disclosed. He raised concerns over the non-disclosure of the identities of those arrested, the circumstances surrounding the attack on civilians, and the charges filed in connection with the case.
He further referred to recent security concerns, including reported militant firing on convoy trucks in Jiribam even after the Chief Minister’s visit, stating that such incidents raise serious questions about the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
Highlighting the prolonged impact of the ongoing conflict, Santa Nahakpam stated that normal life has been severely disrupted for the people of Manipur since the onset of violence, and added that the situation has continued under successive governments.
Meanwhile, COCOMI has urged the Chief Minister and State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam to step down on moral grounds in view of the prevailing situation.
During the protest, President of Social Workers Congress, Khongman, Athokpam Birendra, also addressed the gathering and spoke on the current issues.
