Meira Paibis of Tera Loukham Leirak staged a protest demonstration today, demanding justice for Huidrom Micheal (31), who was allegedly killed in indiscriminate firing by personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district.
Huidrom Micheal was among the three individuals who lost their lives in the reported firing incident on April 7. The firing took place in the aftermath of a bomb blast at Tronglaobi Maning Leikai, which had earlier claimed the lives of two siblings and triggered widespread public outrage.
According to reports, a large number of people had gathered near the CRPF camp on the same day to protest what they described as the failure of security forces to protect civilians. The situation reportedly escalated during the protest, leading to the alleged firing by CRPF personnel.
During the demonstration, the Meira Paibis condemned the killing and demanded accountability, stating that those responsible must be brought to justice. Protesters also called for an independent and transparent inquiry into the incident, maintaining that the use of force against civilians was unjustified.
The protest saw participation from a large number of local residents, with demonstrators raising slogans and expressing anger over the incident. They also urged the authorities to ensure that such incidents do not recur and that adequate measures are taken to safeguard civilian lives.
The incident continues to draw strong reactions from various sections of society, with increasing calls for justice, accountability, and improved protection for civilians in conflict-affected areas.
