The 85th Nupi Lal Ningshing Numit was observed today at Iboyaima Shumang Lila Shanglen, Imphal East District, under the aegis of Nupi Lal Ningshing Numit Thoupang Lup, Manipur. The event commemorated the contributions of Manipuri women in the historic Nupi Laan movements and their enduring legacy.
The program, presided over by Laishram Mema, Chairman of Nupi Lal Ningshing Numit Thoupang Lup, featured a host of distinguished personalities, including Chief Guest Aribam Noutuneshwari Devi, Retired District & Sessions Judge. Guests of Honour included Serto Hoinu Kom, Member of the Kom Tribe Organisation Valley; Piring Hoinu Chothe, President of Chothe Women’s Society; Phaomei Puiruna Kabui, President of Kabui Women’s Organisation, Manipur; YK Iris Thangal, Advisor to Thangal Women Union; Ch. Achim Aimol, Executive Member of Aimol Development Society; and Dr. Khullakpam Sapana, Research Assistant at the Centre for Meitei Pangal Cultural Studies, Manipur.
Other prominent attendees included Dr. U. Tothum Maring of the Maring Women Union, Thangashem Thanga of Chiru Women Union, and Julia Shinglai, Former Chairman of BADA.
Speeches by resource persons Prof. Dr. Naorem Joykumar, Retired HOD of the Department of History, Manipur University, and Moirangthem Ranjana, Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Standard College, highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the Nupi Lal movements.
