Imphal, Nov 14:
Jiribam MLA Ashab Uddin has expressed frustration over what he calls a lack of support and official responsibility from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh in addressing the ongoing violence in Jiribam. He belongs to JD (U) which is allied with the BJP at the national level, currently supporting the government at the center.
Speaking to the media, Ashab Uddin disclosed that while BJP leaders, including Minister L. Sushindro, MLA Th. Shanti, and BJP General Secretary K. Sharat, have been assigned duties related to the crisis at Jiribam, he has been left without any official responsibility. “The Chief Minister has not given me any task or authority regarding the situation in Jiribam,” he remarked. “I came here on my own initiative, but without any official power, my presence as an MLA has been ineffective.”
Describing the situation as “tragic,” Ashab Uddin expressed his frustration over his inability to influence administrative actions in the region. “If I am not sent by the authority, other administrative bodies do not listen to me. I am here, holding the position of MLA, only out of my own determination,” he said, lamenting the lack of government support.
Ashab Uddin stated he is doing his best to secure the release of abducted residents in Jiribam but acknowledged that he is acting independently without any government assistance. “It is unfortunate that I have to work on this issue personally, without backing from the government,” he added, highlighting the challenging situation he faces in his efforts to aid his constituents in Jiribam.
