The students of Churachandpur Medical College expressed their concern over the delay of their annual academic pursuits. They demand a safe location and to continue with their classes as soon as possible and submitted memorandums to the Health Minister and the Governor of Manipur.
Health Minister, Dr. Sapam Ranjan has given assurance to the students to begin their course at the earliest, however, he couldn’t give a timeframe for when it will start, said Thokchom Mangal, a 1st-year Churachandpur Medical student. The student also expresses the traumatic experiences they faced before being safely evacuated from the college hostel and demanded a secure place with proper law and order where they can continue their course.
These students are pursuing their first-year MBBS course at the college. They are the first batch after being inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on January 6 this year.
Of the total 100 students in the first batch of the college, approximately 60 students hail from valley regions of the state.
In the memorandum, the students request for arrangements for conducting physical and practical Classes of the students pursuing MBBS in the Churachandpur Medical College, Churachandpur, and shifting of college. The students are the nominated candidates of the State of Manipur based on the merit list of the NEET UG 2022 qualified candidates and consequent upon 1st and 2nd Counselling conducted on October 21, 2022, and November 18, 2022, and allocation has been made on the available seat at the Churachandpur Medical College, Churachandpur.
The students requested to make arrangements in the available space and infrastructure at JNIMS. Or by making immediate alternative arrangements for conducting routine classes at the RD wing of the Health Department, College of Nursing, Lamphelpat, or at the Manipur University Campus
