In response to the recent spate of heavy rains and widespread flooding in the Northeastern states, the Indian Army has initiated a large-scale Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation under the name Operation Jal Rahat 2. The operation is being carried out with coordinated deployments across Nagaland, Assam, and Manipur, under the supervision of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) [HQ IGAR (N)], in close coordination with local civil administrations.
In Manipur, the Nambol River, which flows through Imphal West and Bishnupur districts, breached danger levels following incessant rainfall, leading to extensive flooding in several low-lying areas. Although water levels have now begun to recede, Indian Army personnel remain actively engaged in ongoing relief operations. In collaboration with civil authorities, the Army continues to provide crucial assistance to the affected populations.
According to an official statement issued by the Indian Army, as of July 10, a total of 40 Relief Columns—comprising both primary and reserve teams—have been deployed across the region. The relief efforts have resulted in the successful rescue of over 3,800 individuals from flood-affected zones. Furthermore, more than 1,300 food packets have been distributed to stranded families, while medical aid has been provided to over 2,000 individuals. Drinking water remains a critical need, and the Army has managed to distribute over 15,000 bottles to communities facing acute shortages.
Reaffirming its commitment to the people, the Indian Army stated that it remains steadfast in assisting fellow citizens during natural calamities. Through swift mobilisation, timely intervention, and coordinated efforts with the civil administration, the Army continues to extend life-saving support and essential supplies to those affected by the floods.
