MSPDCL initiates smart prepaid meter installation in Imphal under RDSS Scheme

The Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) has announced the commencement of smart prepaid meter installation across Imphal Electrical Divisions I, II, and III as part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). The initiative, aimed at improving the reliability of power supply and enhancing consumer services, is being undertaken with technical support from M/s Sangai Smart Metering Pvt. Ltd., the agency authorized to carry out the installations.
In a public notice issued on July 9, 2025, the General Manager (Commercial) of MSPDCL stated that no charges would be collected from consumers for the installation of the smart meters. Consumers were urged to cooperate fully with the installation teams to ensure smooth and timely implementation of the project.
The company also mentioned that the installation personnel have been authorized solely for meter installation, and consumers were requested not to assign them any other task. It was further informed that the team would distribute pamphlets during their visits to raise awareness regarding the functioning of smart meters, recharge processes, and the benefits of the new system.
Consumers were encouraged to make use of mobile applications such as the ‘Urja Seva Sangai’ app and the ‘MSPDCL Smart Meter’ app, which would enable them to track real-time electricity consumption, recharge balance, and monitor usage patterns.
According to the statement, the installation drive is part of MSPDCL’s broader efforts to provide 24×7 reliable and quality power supply across the region, while also bringing greater transparency to electricity consumption. The company expressed hope that consumers would extend their support for the successful implementation of the scheme.
