Imphal, Feb 12:
Congress MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar, who is also the former Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has questioned the purpose of BJP’s Manipur in-Charge Sambit Patra’s visit to the state, asking whether it is intended to resolve the ongoing crisis or for some other reason.
Speaking at his official quarter in Babupara, Imphal, Lokeshwar highlighted that despite the severe crisis in Manipur, the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly has not convened its 7th session, leaving the people in the dark about critical issues. He expressed concern over the lack of an Assembly session to discuss pressing matters, calling it highly unfortunate and detrimental to the state.
Lokeshwar further stated that if the session is not convened soon, it could be deemed null and void, which would be unprecedented for any state or government. He also mentioned the ongoing demand for the Chief Minister’s resignation, emphasizing that if the current leadership steps down, the ruling BJP MLAs should decide on a new Chief Minister through internal discussions.
Referring to the state’s current suspended animation, he remarked that if President’s Rule (PR) is imposed, the political scenario will change completely, as the BJP-led government’s strength and internal conflicts among its MLAs will come under scrutiny.
