AMUCO accuses Centre of destabilizing Manipur, reaffirms commitment to State’s integrity

Imphal, Feb 12:

The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) has accused the Government of India of employing various strategies to destabilize Manipur’s integrity. Speaking at the 32nd Foundation Day celebration of AMUCO at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai Community Hall, President Nando Luwang alleged that the Centre has repeatedly used divisive tactics to weaken the state.
Addressing reporters, Nando Luwang asserted that the Indian government initially created divisions among Manipur’s ethnic communities, then fragmented armed rebel groups, and later turned to political maneuvering by dividing parties, legislators, and even members within the same political party (BJP). He claimed that this was a long-term strategy aimed at not only dividing Manipur but also erasing its historical identity as an erstwhile nation that merged with the Indian Union through an agreement.
Nando further alleged that the Centre’s reluctance to resolve Manipur’s prolonged crisis was a deliberate ploy. He accused the government of playing a double game—directing the Assam Rifles to support Kuki militants while instructing other central forces, such as the BSF, to give the impression of backing the Meitei people. He also blamed the government for failing to curb large-scale deforestation in the hill areas, which he attributed to illegal poppy plantations and the sustenance of militant camps.
Condemning the alleged plans to arrest village defenders, Nando stated that these defenders were only protecting their communities from militant attacks. He reaffirmed AMUCO’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding Manipur’s territorial integrity and its people, emphasizing that the organization is ready to stand with the public to protect the state’s future.
As part of the Foundation Day program, AMUCO members and representatives from various civil society organizations (CSOs) paid floral tributes to the departed leaders, founders, and advisors of AMUCO.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including Soraisam Memcha, President of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur; Yazing Vicisy, Secretary General of the Federation of Haomee; Yumkhaibam Kunjarani, President of the All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association; Yumkhaibam Hayatur Rahman, President of the All Manipur Meitei Pangal Clubs’ Organisation; and Atongpi Kamei, President of the Kabui Mothers’ Association.
