Imphal, Mar 6:
Bachaspatimayum Memcha, who tragically lost her son, Phalguni Devi, mourning the loss of her husband, and numerous others grieving the loss of their loved ones on the fateful day of June 18, 2021, gathered today at Kekrupat to express their anguish over the burning of 18 portraits. These cherished portraits, housed at the United Committee Manipur office in Lamphelpat, Imphal West, were callously destroyed by unidentified miscreants.
Speaking to the media amidst the solemn atmosphere of Kekrupat, Bachaspatmayum Memcha, tears streaming down her face, posed a poignant question: Why were these portraits burned, robbing grieving parents of the last tangible memories of their departed children? With a heavy heart, she lamented that some parents no longer have photographs of their loved ones lost on June 18, leaving them to grapple with the painful void.
Echoing Memcha’s sentiments, Phalguni Devi voiced her own distress, questioning why the perpetrators did not spare the portraits and instead reduced them to ashes. She demanded accountability from those responsible for the reprehensible act, urging them to step forward and provide clarity on their motives for destroying these precious mementos.
