Imphal, Aug 6:
In a crucial effort to support the fishing community of Champu Khangpok Floating Village, the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) has distributed a second batch of essential supplies. This aid, which includes food and medical items, was delivered to villagers who have been isolated by dense phumdis for the past two and a half weeks due to strong winds.
The phumdis, or floating vegetation, have cut off the community from the rest of the lake, severely impacting their ability to survive. The LDA’s timely assistance has provided significant relief to these struggling villagers.
SE Ng Sanajaoba and Project Coordinator RK Keshokumar from the LDA personally delivered the supplies to the community representatives and villagers. In addition to this immediate relief, the LDA is exploring solutions to clear the phumdis to restore the villagers’ access to their daily activities and fishing operations, which are their primary livelihood.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren and Chairman Asnikumar, the LDA is committed not only to conserving Loktak Lake but also to supporting the communities that depend on its resources. This dual focus aims to balance ecological health with human well-being, ensuring both environmental preservation and the economic stability of local communities.
The LDA’s dedication to protecting Loktak Lake’s natural beauty and ecological significance is supported through collaboration with State and Central Governments and other key stakeholders.
