Kakching Range Forest Office has notified the general public not to heap up the hay straw/stubble on the roadside after their harvesting in and around the growing trees and also not to burn it up which may ultimately kill the trees growing nearby.
This is being stated as the harvesting season sets in, Range Forest Officer N. Munal in a statement said.
It added that burning and killing of trees is a punishable offence under Indian Forest Acts, 1927 and Manipur Forest Rules, 1971. It’s also a crime under Section 188 of the IPC and under the Air and Pollution Control Act of 1981. Further, burning hay straw not only reduces our useful and important biomass but also unnecessarily produces many harmful gases thereby polluting our environment.
He further stated that the general public are requested not to heap up the hay straw/stubble on the roadside near the trees after the harvesting and not to burn the hay straw to avoid killing the trees, air pollution and loss of biomasses in the public interest.
