CM eyes to protect Siroy Lily; shows seriousness over the unwanted crisis among different communities

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh finally seems to realize the need for bringing a solution to any unwanted crisis before it goes out of hands. Speaking during the inaugural function of the month-long World Environment Day Celebration organized by Royal Riders Manipur in association with Green Revolution Society, Manipur at Lamyanba Sanglen at Palace compound today, Okram Ibobi Siing said that incidents happening in the state which has the potential to break out communal clash should be solved in time. The Chief Minister was referring to the recent crisis at Gwaltabi and yesterday’s firing incident at Pallel in Chandel district at which a person was killed in indiscriminate firing by unknown gunmen. He further said that even though Manipur is a small state it is inhabited by various ethnic communities. He said that it is very unfortunate for the people to come across numerous unwanted crises among these communities.
Showing his concern to the deteriorating environment, Chief Minister said that the massive deforestation being carried out at forest land has become a real threat to the people. He said his government is taking up all possible measures to prevent the deforestation in the state territory. Regarding the present condition of the Siroy Lilly, the Chief Minister said that his government felt the need for protection of the rare flower which is only available in Ukhrul district. He said his government is talking with the village chief of the Siroy Village for allowing the government to convert the area into a protected site. He further said that while protecting the Siroy Lily the government would be able to safeguard the ecological imbalances at Ukhrul district. Siroy is a main source of water for the whole of Ukhrul town and if the ongoing deforestation at the site has not been put to immediate halt the people of Ukhrul might face shortage of water in the coming days.
The inaugural function of the month-long environment day celebration was also attended by Dr. M. Homeshwor Singh, Director, Environment & Ecological Wing, Govt. of Manipur, G. Tomba Sharma, Retd. Principal, DM College of Science and Miren Thangjam, President Royal Riders Manipur as dignitaries on the dais. The  volunteers of the Royal Riders Manipur will spread awareness message about the need to preserve the environment during the month-long programme beside conducting tree plantation programme at various district of the state.
