Assam Rifles personnel injured in ambush in Tengnoupal district

An Assam Rifles personnel was injured after unidentified armed persons ambushed a patrol team near the Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district, according to police sources.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4 am between Yangoupokpi and Charingphei villages. The attackers allegedly planted and detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) as the Assam Rifles personnel were on patrol.

Following the blast, the security personnel retaliated with gunfire, triggering an exchange of fire between the two sides. The unidentified attackers subsequently fled the area, taking advantage of the surrounding terrain.

The injured Assam Rifles personnel was reportedly evacuated for medical treatment. Additional security forces were subsequently deployed in the area, and search operations were launched to trace the attackers.

The identity and affiliation of those responsible for the ambush have not been established. The incident comes amid continuing security concerns along Manipur’s border with Myanmar.
