Imphal, April 11:
The All Meitei Pangal Youth Association (AMPYA), All Manipur Committee, has issued a strong appeal urging individuals and organizations to refrain from making communal and provocative statements on social media targeting the Pangal (Meitei Muslim) community.
In a press statement, AMPYA expressed concern over recent trends of hateful comments and misinformation spreading online, which it says could deepen existing social divides and disrupt communal harmony in Manipur. The association stated that some individuals and groups are irresponsibly exploiting social platforms to create tension, instead of promoting peace and unity among communities.
“Remarks targeting the Pangal community, whether directly or indirectly, have been noticed in various social media platforms. These are not only inflammatory but also harmful to the peaceful coexistence of communities,” said AMPYA Publicity Secretary Raju Khan Ipahm. He emphasized the need for collective restraint and responsible use of social media.
The association also urged against emotional manipulation that could incite unrest or violence. It emphasized that fostering emotional integration and mutual respect among all communities is essential to maintaining peace in the state.
AMPYA further expressed concern over the role of certain media outlets, stage programs, and films in unintentionally reinforcing stereotypes or stirring tensions. It appealed to creators and performers to act responsibly and avoid content that may hurt sentiments during this sensitive period.
Calling for active intervention by authorities, the association urged the Home Department and Cyber Crime Cell to monitor and take action against those spreading communal propaganda, fake news, or hate speech online. It also warned against the manipulation of public opinion through misleading narratives and demanded strict steps to curb such activities.
The association reiterated its commitment to communal harmony and appealed to all communities to join hands in upholding peace and brotherhood in Manipur.
