Imphal, March 23:
The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) has expressed strong concerns over what it calls the manipulation of Census data in Manipur, leading to unnatural population growth and potential misrepresentation in the Delimitation process. The organization has urged authorities to halt the Delimitation process until a fair and accurate Census is conducted.
According to AMUCO, the Supreme Court of India has intervened, instructing the government to suspend the Census and National Register of Citizens (NRC) processes in Manipur until proper measures are taken to ensure accuracy. The organization claims that an inaccurate Census could lead to unfair political representation, affecting the balance of parliamentary and assembly constituencies in the state.
In après statement, AMUCO highlighted concerns that the inclusion of illegal immigrants in the Census records could distort voter lists and constituency boundaries. The organization has called on both the government and the people of Manipur to remain vigilant and ensure that no deliberate manipulation takes place.
AMUCO further emphasized the need for a thorough review of the Delimitation process, stressing that it must be based on authentic Census data to prevent any demographic and political imbalance. It urged authorities to take immediate corrective measures and assured that it would continue to monitor the developments closely.
The organization has also appealed to the people of Manipur to safeguard their political and territorial integrity by remaining united against any attempts to alter the state’s demographic composition through manipulated Census records.
AMUCO reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in the Census and Delimitation processes and urged authorities to act responsibly in addressing these concerns.
