71st Anniversary of “Battle of Imphal World War II” observed

2nd World War Imphal Campaign Foundation, in association with Manipur Tourism Forum jointly organized the “Battle of Red Hill AKA Point 2926” today at Maibam Lotpa Ching, Nambol. Manipur Chief Minister O. Ibobi, Takeshi Yagi, Ambasador of Japan to India, Patrick Suckling, Australian High Commissioner to India, M Prithviraj, Parliamentary Secy. (YAS & Tourism) and Dr. Dhabali Singh, President, Manipur Tourism Forum (MTF) graced the function as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and President respectively. Speaking at the function, Chief Minister O. Ibobi highlighted the importance of the one of the most bitter and fierce battle of the 2nd World War and commemorate the brave souls who took part in the battle. He also stressed on the need for the preservation and development of the battle site into a heritage tourist centre as the battle involved many Japanese, English and Australian soldiers and as such the history of these places are intertwined in this historic battlefield. Expressing the desire of the state government to develop Manipur as the best tourist destination not only in the North East region but also in the whole of the country taking into consideration the huge potential that can cater to varied tourist interests, the Chief Minister appealed to all present to help preserve the historically important site and assured all possible help and assistance from the state government in all efforts.
