Imphal, Nov 17:
Violence erupted in Imphal on Friday, leading to the arrest of 23 individuals involved in ransacking and setting fire to the properties of public representatives, including ministers and MLAs. The mobs targeted homes across Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur districts, causing significant damage. In response, police forces deployed tear gas to disperse the crowds, resulting in the injury of eight individuals during the operation.
Authorities recovered a .32 pistol, seven rounds of ammunition, and eight mobile phones from the arrested suspects. The unrest prompted the local government to impose a total curfew across the region and suspend internet and mobile data services for two days.
To restore order, security forces, including the Army and Assam Rifles, were deployed, and flag marches were conducted to enforce the curfew and ensure public safety. Additionally, extensive search operations and area domination were carried out in both the hill and valley districts.
