Today’s Manipur as reflected in media indicates unhealthy administration

Reflection of Present day Manipuri society to the media today is not a sign of healthy administration, no matter on whether those running the government accepted or not. While there is no doubt to the effort of the Chief Minister and his team, it is still questionable to the loyalty, responsibility and sincerity of those who are supposed to make the effort of the government into reality.
Except for the good news from RIMS and the report about the series of meeting by the chief ministers with the leadership of the central government for taking up developmental program in the state almost all the news appeared in the front page of almost all newspapers published here in the state today showed disturbing atmosphere in the state administration. Law and order situations, which the government claimed to have improved a lot turns out as a mere joke with the recent bomb attack by miscreants at a hotel in Moreh and to even media houses of the state. What is even more worrisome is the report of scuffled between two families at which one of the member used government authorized license gun killing a teenager at Kakwa area under Singjamei police station. Had it been just normal fight without using license gun, the matter could have been treated as a normal incident which sometimes occurred. When one look at the number of killings and unwarranted incidents which involved killings of youths and even aged people over petty issue by using the license gun, it is certainly an issue arisen out due to the issuance of license gun to people who are not supposed to be authorized. As per report a total of 26,836 civilians of the state have been provided firearm licenses in 2016. Source said that the number of active firearm licenses issued to the people is nearly double in 2020. Which means as many as 50,000 people of the state are having firearm which could killed a person. But the question is do all the 50,000 people needs firearm who are under threat from someone. Even if it is or was, are issuances of firearm to each and every one of them a ‘solution’. A matter need to ponder with the kind of series of crimes witnessed among the license gun holder. Saying so, there are some who judiciously use the license firearm, but allowing all people to own gun is not a good decision, but it will be more justified to strengthen the police force if in case some felt that their life insecure.
Another news appeared this newspaper in yesterday’s edition about a government officer of the state Health Services dishonouring higher authority’s order also indicates that there has been no discipline maintained in the state Health Department. As per Government service rules how could a Senior Medical Officer, release a grade –IV employee, who have been ordered to stay in the hospital by the Director of the Health Services Manipur. This kind of incident about some government employees who are highly paid from the public money collected in the form of taxes are performing in some government departments.
When two-third of the front page Newspaper reported about violence, irregularities being practice in the government run offices, then, it is a clear indication about the government’s inability in running the society.
Moreover, the world has heard that the media in Manipur black out for two days and while resuming it the front page showed reports of an unhealthy administration. These is a serious matter and if these have not been checked and streamline by reviewing the issue about issuance of firearm license , security measures and frequent checking to the irregularities happening in government institutions, it is likely that the people starts questioning to the credibility of the present government.
Saying so, the state is doing well in other area like war on drugs and taking up some developmental works. Good deeds gain support from the people but the ugly going in other are sometimes overshadowed the good initiatives. Inclusive development is a much and for that government should review the society’s reflection to media.
