The Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur) has condemned the continuing violence, civilian killings, arson and destruction in the hills of Manipur, particularly in Zeliangrong-inhabited areas, and appealed to all armed groups and stakeholders to end attacks on civilians.
In a statement, Baudi president Poupoklung Kamei expressed concern over recent incidents reported from Chawangkining, Kaimai, Tollen, Longpi, Khedaghar and Leisangphai, saying the violence had deepened fear and mistrust among civilians.
The organisation cited reports of four Kuki civilians being killed at Tollen and Longpi on September 13, burning of abandoned Naga houses at Khedaghar, and the killing of two Kuki women and burning of farmhouses at Leisangphai on September 15.
The Baudi condemned the killing of civilians irrespective of ethnic or community identity, asserting that no political objective or grievance could justify the taking of innocent lives. It also rejected selective condemnation of violence and collective justification or punishment based on ethnic identity.
