BJP MLA from Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency Dr. Y. Radheshyam has appealed to the public to ease the intensity of ongoing agitations, including the proposed General Strike, over the demand for implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before conducting the Census, saying a concrete decision on the issue is expected following Chief Minister Y. Khemchand’s visit to Delhi.
Radheshyam made the appeal while speaking at a programme held at Meitei Sanglen, Waikhong, Kakching district, where 137 looms (Fishakol) were distributed to weavers. The programme was organised by the District Handlooms and Textiles, Kakching.
Accompanied by District Handlooms and Textiles, Kakching Project Manager S. Heramani and Waikhong Gram Panchayat chairman W. Brojen, Radheshyam said the government was taking the public demand for updating the NRC before the Census seriously. He added that the government itself was in favour of implementing the demand.
He said a BJP committee had been constituted and sent to Delhi to formally convey the demand to the party’s national leaders.
Radheshyam said Chief Minister Y. Khemchand had left for Delhi today following a call from the central leadership and that this was his second visit to the national capital after being summoned by central leaders. He expressed confidence that a concrete decision on the demand would be taken after the Chief Minister’s return.
