COCOMI sets for tomorrow mass rally, Women’s wing called for mass participation

The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) is gearing up for a mass rally in Imphal on October 31, with its Women’s Wing calling on people from all indigenous communities to turn out in large numbers and raise a united voice against what it described as an ongoing proxy war in Manipur.

The rally is being jointly organised by COCOMI, the Joint Tribe Council Manipur, the Foothill Naga Co-ordination Committee, the Naga Peoples’ Union, Imphal, the Inpui Naga Union and the Naga Humanitarian Aids Committee, Manipur.

Addressing a press conference at the COCOMI office today, Women’s Wing Convenor Luwangleima said the rally would demand an immediate end to the conflict, abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with Kuki militant groups, withdrawal of armed forces from the state and safe resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

She said the continued conflict had prolonged suffering among the people, making it imperative for indigenous communities to come together and collectively press for lasting peace.

Luwangleima appealed to all sections of society to participate in the rally, asserting that a united public voice was necessary to safeguard Manipur’s territorial integrity, ensure the return and rehabilitation of displaced families and bring an end to the prevailing situation.

The Women’s Wing urged people to set aside differences and join the October 31 mobilisation to press the government for concrete action on the demands.
