People-centred governance vital for peaceful Manipur - AMUCO

Sanjoy Sorokhaibam, president of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), has stated that Manipur could have remained a peaceful state if people were allowed to govern themselves and settle their internal matters through their own institution and wisdom.

The president made this statement on the occasion of an event organised by AMUCO at Kwakeithel office of the organisation in connection with the 80th year of exit of the British from Manipur. This was organised with the objective of recalling the transition period and analysing the political journey and challenges of the state.

While delivering his address, the president further elaborated that many of the internal problems of Manipur could have been solved by dialogue and people-centred governance if the people had been provided enough space and power to manage their internal matters. The president said that peace cannot be maintained only through administrative and security means and people’s involvement in settling the issues is necessary.

The AMUCO president called for an approach that places the interests, aspirations and security of the people at the centre of governance and conflict resolution, saying internal issues should be addressed through political dialogue and peaceful means.
