Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah has taken the deteriorating condition of National Highways 102A and 202 to the Centre, seeking urgent intervention to expedite construction and restore critical road connectivity in Ukhrul, Kamjong and adjoining areas.
Muivah met Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Secretary V. Umashankar in New Delhi and submitted photographs highlighting the “terrible condition” of the highways. He pressed for immediate action on construction, maintenance and major bottlenecks affecting public movement, trade and emergency services.
The Secretary, according to Muivah, briefed him on steps already taken by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and acknowledged that the law-and-order situation had hampered construction. He assured that NHIDCL would be advised to expedite both projects on priority.
The meeting followed Muivah’s August 7 representation to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari seeking personal intervention over the road crisis.
On NH-102A, Muivah flagged a major landslide near Phaibung that has remained practically blocked since June 23, besides the roughly 15-km Tollol Junction-Dungrei Junction stretch. He called for rigid pavement in Ukhrul town, comprehensive landslide-control measures and immediate resumption of the long-delayed double-laning of the Finch Corner-Tengnoupal stretch.
NHIDCL data cited by the MLA show progress of 80.80 per cent, 94.01 per cent and 97 per cent in three major NH-102A packages, with completion targeted between November and December 2026.
On NH-202, Muivah highlighted the neglected Lower Hundung-Choithar stretch and urged removal of land acquisition, contractual and legal hurdles affecting several packages.
He called for a proactive approach by the Centre and NHIDCL, stressing that prolonged road failures are imposing an unacceptable burden on people dependent on the highways for essential services and economic activity.
