CLP leader Meghachandra visits arson-hit Kanto Sabal, alleges security lapses

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader K. Meghachandra today visited Kanto Sabal Leikai, Leimakhong Chingmang, to inspect the six houses that were set on fire on July 11 and alleged serious security lapses on the part of the government.

He was accompanied by a Congress delegation comprising former Minister M. Hemanta Singh, former MLA Y. Surachandra Singh, SC Chairman and MPCC leader A. Oken Singh, MPCC General Secretaries S. Jeeten Singh, Md. Wahidur Rahaman and W. Shyamjai Singh, MPCC Secretary Angshil Maring, Chairman of the MPCC Sports Department W. Rojit Singh, Chairman of the Labour Department T. Loken Singh, MPYC President W. Anand Singh, and retired Major Y. Angamba Singh.

Following the inspection, Meghachandra said the incident exposed serious security lapses and negligence by the government. He pointed out that the affected site is located close to the gate of the GOC, 57 Mountain Division, raising questions over the lack of effective security coordination between the State Government and Central security forces.

Expressing concern over the incident, the CLP leader said that despite nearly three years of ethnic conflict, incidents of arson continue to occur, indicating that peace and normalcy have yet to be restored. He remarked that the latest incident sends a disturbing message about the prevailing security situation under the present government and called for stronger measures to ensure the safety of vulnerable localities.
