Women from four localities in Khurai Kongpal Thoubandong on Friday rallied in support of Inner Manipur MP Bimol Akoijam, condemning what they described as attempts to malign his reputation through sexual harassment allegations.
The rally saw participation from women belonging to Laishram Leikai, Sajor Leikai, Chingangbam Leikai and Ningthoubung Leikai. Participants raised slogans opposing what they viewed as efforts to falsely implicate the MP.
Speaking during the rally, Takhelmayum Serabhanu, representing the four localities, said the women stood firmly behind Bimol Akoijam and rejected the allegations against him. She said attempts to tarnish his image for political gains would not be accepted by the public.
Another participant, Ayekpam Sobita, alleged that the controversy was being used to target the MP despite his raising several issues concerning Manipur in Parliament. She also criticised MP Sarda Devi for her remarks concerning Bimol Akoijam and called for what she described as attempts to malign him to be stopped immediately.
