Violence continues in Manipur, as 4 civilians injured in Chassad

Violence in Manipur’s hill districts continues, with at least four civilians, including the chief of Chassad village, injured after suspected NSCN-IM cadres allegedly opened fire with automatic weapons at Chassad in Kamjong district this afternoon.

The firing reportedly occurred around 2.30 pm, raising fresh concerns over civilian safety and the risk of further escalation amid continuing tensions between Naga and Kuki groups.

The injured were identified as Thangjahao Haokip, chief of Chassad village; St. Khailun Haokip and Seikhohao, members of the Chassad Village Authority; and Seipao Haokip, chief of Phungtha (Kachouphung-Kuki).

Seipao Haokip was reportedly staying as an internally displaced person (IDP) after fleeing his native village following alleged threats and violence involving NSCN-IM cadres and Tangkhul groups.

The injured were taken to a nearby Army camp in Chassad for medical treatment. Details about their condition and the circumstances leading to the firing were not immediately available.
