A mass awareness campaign titled “Politics: Vote for National Regeneration” was held at Thoubal Khunou Keithel Macha on the night of July 10 with the objective of promoting ethical voting and encouraging informed political participation.
The programme was organised by Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) in collaboration with Thoubal Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi.
Advocate Thokchom Suresh attended the event as the chief guest. Koijam Suresh, President of MAYOL, was the guest of honour, while Tajenjam Rita, President of Nupi Khunnai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, and Laishram Rabini, Vice President of Thoubal Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi, also attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Advocate Thokchom Suresh urged voters not to sell their votes for money, food or liquor. He said electing honest and capable representatives is essential for ensuring good governance and sustainable development. He stressed that voters should understand a candidate’s background, political ideology and public service record before casting their votes.
He also spoke on the role of politics in nation-building, explaining its evolution and highlighting the qualities of ethical and people-oriented leadership necessary for a healthy democratic system.
Speaking on the occasion, MAYOL President Koijam Suresh said the campaign was launched to encourage public dialogue on electoral reforms and responsible voting. He said voters should exercise their franchise after carefully assessing the integrity, vision and capability of candidates rather than being influenced by personal gain or short-term benefits.
