One killed in blast at Singjamei Bazar

A person was killed in a powerful explosion at Singjamei Bazar in Imphal West district during the intervening night of May 14 and 15, triggering panic in the densely populated market area.
According to police and local sources, the blast occurred around midnight under the jurisdiction of Singjamei Police Station. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased may have been carrying the explosive device when it detonated.
Sources said the individual had reportedly arrived at the spot on a motorbike shortly before the explosion took place. The impact of the blast created panic among residents and nearby shopkeepers.
Security personnel rushed to the area soon after the incident and cordoned off the site. A forensic examination and investigation have been launched to ascertain the nature of the explosive and the circumstances leading to the blast.
Police said the identity of the deceased has not yet been established. No militant outfit or organisation has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
