The annual Mera Kwak Tanba Ceremony 2025 was celebrated with enthusiasm and cultural fervor today at the Hatta Kanjeibung Palace Compound in Imphal. The event, which began at 1:30 p.m. and concluded at 5:00 p.m., drew a large gathering of dignitaries, participants, and spectators, all coming together to honor this significant traditional festival.
The celebration featured a series of elaborate rituals and performances that highlighted the rich heritage of Manipur. The ceremonial proceedings commenced with the assembly of Cheirak and Garot Phamnaiba, followed by ritual pujas conducted by Pandit Achouba and Bharmhasava, including the sacred Bhinu Puja. Another significant ritual, Pana Mari Ta Khou-Saba, was also performed as part of the festivities.
Cultural performances were a key highlight, featuring a Thang Ta and Yannaba demonstration, showcasing Manipuri martial arts and dance, alongside Maibi Jagoi, a traditional ritual dance performed by priestesses. The programme concluded with a certificate session recognizing participants and contributors.
The event was organized by Active Voice, with commentary provided in Manipuri and English by Gouri Haobam and Pukhrambam Sandhyarani Devi, respectively, enabling the ceremony’s cultural significance to reach both local and non-local audiences.
