Wangkheimayum Sohodeba Singh, a para fencer from Wangkhei Leikai, Imphal East, brought glory to Manipur by winning a gold medal in the “Epee” category at the National Para Fencing Championship 2025. The championship was held at Olympia Technology Park, Guindy, Chennai, from July 4 to 6.
Sohodeba, representing Manipur, defeated his opponent Ignesh from the host team Tamil Nadu with a convincing score of 10-3 in the finals to secure the gold.
Speaking to reporters over the phone, team manager Dr. Kiran Yendrembam informed that this marks a proud moment as Sohodeba, who had lost his left leg in an unfortunate accident at the age of eight in 2018, has made an inspiring comeback through sheer determination and consistent training. He has been training under the guidance of Coach Kangjam Birendra Singh of Haobam Marak Kangjam Leikai.
The manager further said that Sohodeba joined the Manipur team as part of a two-member delegation, including the coach and himself. The team reached Chennai on time and participated after completing practice rounds held on July 4 and 5.
