4.1 Kg of suspected brown sugar seized from 2 passengers bound for Kolkata at Imphal Airport

Alert security personnel at Imphal International Airport foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle a large quantity of suspected brown sugar out of the state on Thursday, leading to the seizure of 4.100 kilograms of the contraband from two passengers scheduled to board a Kolkata-bound flight.
According to sources, the seizure was made at around 11:20 am during routine pre-boarding security checks at the airport. The suspicious consignment was detected when hand baggage belonging to two passengers passed through the CISF X-Ray screening system. The unusual images generated by the scanner immediately raised suspicion, prompting security personnel to carry out a detailed examination of the luggage.
Upon inspection, officials reportedly recovered 4.100 kg of suspected brown sugar concealed inside the baggage. The two passengers were detained on the spot before they could board an IndiGo flight bound for Kolkata.
The individuals have been identified as Kh. Sabir Ahamed (24), son of Kh. Burhanuddin of Kiyamgei Oinam Loukon, Kiyamgei Muslim, Imphal East district, and Syed Sabir Ali (26), son of Syed Najub Ali of Kiyamgei Oinam Loukon, Imphal East district.
The seizure triggered heightened activity at the airport as security and enforcement agencies initiated further verification and interrogation procedures. Sources said the contraband is suspected to be brown sugar, though its exact nature and purity will be determined following forensic examination.
Authorities are investigating the origin of the consignment, its intended recipients and whether the accused are linked to a wider interstate drug trafficking network.
