The Khelendro Memorial Trophy 2025 Five-a-Side Men’s Football Tournament, organised by the Youth Development Association (YDA), concluded yesterday at the Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School Playground. Sponsored by NHPC Ltd., Loktak Project, the tournament began on May 18 and saw the participation of 22 teams from across the region.
In the thrilling final match, Crime Makers Boys, Ningthoukhong emerged victorious by defeating Arambai Unit 32 with a scoreline of 3-1, securing the championship title.
The closing ceremony was attended by prominent figures including MLA Govindas Konthoujam, MLA Thongam Shanti, Angom Poireiton, the Angom Ningthou of Sanakonung Uttra Shanglen, Upendra Hajra, Head of Project (HOP), Loktak Project, Chaoba Leima, wife of the late Okram Khelendro, in whose memory the tournament is held, and YDA President Okram Yoihenba.
As part of the awards, the winning team Crime Makers Boys, Ningthoukhong received a cash prize of ¹ 40,000, along with a memento and trophy, while the runners-up, Arambai Unit 32, were awarded ¹ 30,000 and a memento.
Speaking at the event, Angom Poireiton said the tournament served not just as a sporting event but also as a platform to honour the late Okram Khelendro’s enduring contributions. He noted that such events create positive and meaningful spaces for youth, helping shape disciplined and forward-looking individuals. He added that the unity and enthusiasm displayed during the tournament reflect the growing commitment to nurture talent and promote community values.
