Drug awareness programmes held in Pherzawl and Imphal East ahead of World Drug Day

As part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, drug awareness programmes were organised in Pherzawl and Imphal East districts on Thursday under the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan”.

In Pherzawl district, Pherzawl Police conducted a drug awareness programme at St. Xavier School, Thanlon, with the participation of medical personnel from the Primary Health Centre, teachers and students of St. Xavier School and Convention English School. Resource persons highlighted the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse and stressed the importance of early awareness and prevention. Students were encouraged to make informed choices and resist peer pressure. The programme concluded with students and teachers taking a pledge to remain free from drugs and contribute towards building a drug-free society.

Meanwhile, in Imphal East district, the observance was jointly organised by the 6th India Reserve Battalion and the District Level Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Committee, Imphal East, at Hundred Flowers Higher Secondary School, Pangei.

The programme featured a mass rally from the school to Khurai Heinou Makhong and a poster campaign along the route to spread awareness on the harmful effects of drug abuse. Students also took a pledge not to engage in any drug-related activities, including possession, transportation, sale, financing, cultivation and production of narcotic substances.

The event was attended by Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, IPS, Commandant of the 6th IRB; Kripa Foundation Project Director Ksh. Jibanmala Devi; District Social Welfare Officer, Imphal East, W. Thamabati Devi; Medical Officer of 6th IRB, Dr. Ph. Premjit Singh; Principal of Hundred Flowers Higher Secondary School, Md. Sabir; along with officers, teachers and students.

The programmes were organised to raise awareness among young people about the dangers of drug abuse and to strengthen community participation in the fight against substance abuse and illicit trafficking.
